Is it inevitably the case that if a company is too successful it will become dangerous?

It was born of hope and idealism, but now the ‘open’ culture of the internet is dominated by global monopolies, manipulating the public on an unprecedented scale. Is it inevitably the case that if a company is too successful it will become dangerous? Can governments fight back and if so how? Should we break up the tech giants, regulate them or just relax and enjoy the benefits?

James Williams: Award-winning Oxford researcher, Williams previously worked at Google for over 10 years, and is the author of Stand Out of Our Light.

David Aaronovitch: Times columnist and broadcaster for the BBC, Aaronovitch is the author of Party Animals: My Family and Other Communists.

Margaret Heffernan: Entrepreneur, CEO and author, Heffernan's book Willful Blindness was chosen as one of Financial Times’ business books of the decade.
