Waterloo LRT Freight Train!! CN 566 both ways at University of Waterloo ION at night! April 14-15!

Prize shot for me and main reason I made a 1hr trip to Kitchener from Brampton at night! To see and record the local freight train that shares 3 miles of the Waterloo Regions ION LRT Route to service a pair of local Chemical Plants in Elmira ON that rely on rail service several nights a week.

So here we see CN’s Kitchener-Elmira local # 566 passing both ways by the University of Waterloo ION LRT Stop while going to and then from Elmira with the nightly sulfuric acid tanker cars.

*** The Waterloo LRT Freight Train operates only under a very strict 6hr time window with regards to being on the shared LRT trackage between 2300-0500. Always has to give the LRT controller a ring when they are getting ready to depart Kitchener Rail Yard and from there the Traffic Controller will briefly hold all LRT trains on the north track between Waterloo Town Square and Northfeild dr to allow the Northbound freight to pass.
-They won’t allow CN a second before 2300 with regards to entering the shared LRT trackage, “not a second and that is litterly a second” as quoted by one of the engineers himself on a Facebook Thread in 2020
Same deal when this train is returning back Southbound after servicing Elmira, if they are just a split second past 0445 while going back onto the shared LRT portion at Northfeild dr region just throws the derailer up and forces them to outlaw until the next window of opportunity for a freight train to pass through which will be beginning at 2300.
