Hi, In this episode, we show you how to do the engine oil change of our Land Rover Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Puma Duratorq engine. An easy DIY maintenance operation as in the workshop manual. We also talk about the oil we use and why. If you own another type of Defender, this operation should be very similar.

Here's the equipment needed for this oil change on Defender PUMA:
2x 5 liters of 5W30 (or 5W40 oil)
1x new oil filter with o-ring
1x new oil plug
1x wrench & 1x torque wrench
1x 13 socket & 1x 27 socket
1x oil container
1x funnel
1x cloth

Concerning the oil change, the most important thing is to change the drain plug, the oil filter, and the o-ring with new ones every time you change your oil.

We are always using the Land Rover Genuine oil filter part ref LR004459 because it’s a protection element for the engine. It would be a bad economy to buy a cheaper part that may be of lower quality and performance.

And last tip, the workshop manual says to add 7 liters of oil after draining the used oil but our experience showed us that the correct amount is nearer from 6.85 liters than 7 liters to reach the full level. It’s probably because it’s almost impossible to drain completely the used oil.

Nous avons acheté ce véhicule neuf en 2009 et sa motorisation est un TD4 2.4tdci Puma. Nous l’avons transformé jour après jour en un parfait tout terrain de camping 4x4 et il nous permet d’être autonomes lors d’un bivouac, d’un voyage 4x4 ou simplement lors d’un voyage en famille.
Nous adorons passer du temps dans la nature et explorer les pistes sauvages du monde entier en famille.
