Composed by Cipriano de Rore (c.1516-1565) /Riccardo Rognoni (c.1550-1620). From Il vero modo di diminuire, Venezia, 1594.

John Potter, tenor
The Dowland Project

Cipriano de Rore's "Ancor che col partire" was a beloved madrigal during its time. In this rendition, Riccardo Rognoni takes the composition as a foundation and embellishes it with intricate vocal improvisations.

Translation:

Even though with departing
I feel like dying,
I would want to leave every hour, every moment:
Such is the pleasure that I feel
From the life I acquire upon returning:
And so a thousand and a thousand times a day
I would want to depart from you:
So sweet are my returns.
