The numbat, also known as the banded anteater, is a marsupial found in the woodlands of Australia. They have small, slender bodies, bushy tails, and reddish-brown fur with white stripes running across their back. Numbats have pointed heads, upright ears, long snouts, and sharp claws along with excellent eyesight and smell. They live in underground burrows or hollow logs which they leave during the day to find their favorite food - termites. The agile numbat forages fallen logs, tree bark, and soil with their long, sticky tongue. They get all the moisture they need from the thousands of termites they consume in a single day.

Mother numbats do not have pouches. The young joeys suckle their teats for about 6 months or until they’re so big that their mother cannot walk around properly. Afterwards, she nurtures them in the nest where they eventually become independent in about 1 year.

Despite being shy, the solitary numbat is tough and can withstand harsh conditions. They symbolize focus, resilience, and persistence. When you need to overcome a challenge, call on the spirit of the numbat. Visit our website to get a free power animal reading and thank you for subscribing.
