Setting a Purpose for Reading: Story Map, Pt. 1 | Literacy for Students with Cognitive Disabilities

Описание к видео Setting a Purpose for Reading: Story Map, Pt. 1 | Literacy for Students with Cognitive Disabilities

In this self-contained lower elementary classroom, the teacher uses a literature book to set a purpose for reading and the students successfully listen to achieve the purpose: to identify the characters and the setting. While reading, another adult uses a student’s communication system to model various words from the book. The teacher stops after reading several pages and asks who are the main characters. Students identify the characters, and the teacher writes their names on a sticky note. One student places the sticky note on a story map under "characters". The video demonstrates effective strategies for engaging students with disabilities in literacy instruction.
