Today I am sharing with you how to make Langar Wali Dal.
Langar is the food distributed as a prasad in Gurudwaras. Although on some bigger gurudwaras like the Golden Temple in Amritsar or the the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara in Delhi, Langar is served everyday to the devotees. But on special occasions like Gurupurabs, especially Guru Nanak Jayanti, Langar is served in almost all the gurudwaras.

The Langar wali dal has no specific recipe but works mainly on broad ratios.
So I have shared how you can make a Langar wali dal at home too with some ratios and measurements. IN the description, I have also share d a recipe with smaller quantity of ingredients for you to try it out at home.

Recipe :

Langar Wali Dal
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 minutes
Serves: 4-5

Ingredients:
To boil dal:
1 Cup black urad dal
1/3 cup chana dal
½ tsp red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp chopped ginger
Salt to taste
For tempering:
2 tbsp ghee
½ tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp chopped garlic
½ tsp chopped ginger
½ tsp chopped green chilies
½ cup chopped onions
½ cup chopped tomatoes
½ tsp red chili powder
½ tsp coriander powder
½ tsp garam masala

Method:
Wash and soak the dals for 7-8 hours.
Pressure cook the dals with 4 cups water and all the ingredients mentioned for 7-8n whistles. Release the pressure, open the lid and simmer the dal for 30-40 minutes, mashing the dal as you go.
Make the tempering. Heat the ghee and add the cumin seeds. Allow the cumin to crackle and add the chopped ginger, garlic, green chilies and allow to turn golden. Add the onions and cook till the onions are golden.
Add the powdered spices, mix and add the tomatoes. Cook till the tomatoes are pulpy. Add the tempering to the dal and simmer for a few minutes. Serve with roti.
