Do you know what to do when someone you care about tells you they’ve been raped? Effectively supporting sex assault survivors not only helps them heal, but also helps change the culture of secrecy that empowers perpetrators. The stories and tips in this talk show how to support survivors well, and make less space for sexual violence in our world. Peg Shippert is a licensed professional counselor, victim advocate, consent educator, and speaker, who specializes in helping survivors of sexual violence move from feeling broken and invisible to feeling whole and empowered. Peg has a private psychotherapy practice in Boulder, CO. She often works with her registered professional therapy dog, Nova, whose belly rub limit has never been reached. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
