Content note: this talk includes extended references to extreme sexual violence and rape.

Christina Lamb opens her talk telling us this is something we might not want to listen to. That the stories she is going to share are so horrifying that no one would want to hear them. But if we can listen, and we must, it allows us to learn and finally shed a light on the hidden reality of war: the voices and experiences of women and the epidemic of sexual violence and war rape they face.
Bringing together testimonies from Yazidi, Nigerian and Rohingya women and girls as well as all around the world from Argentina to the Philippines, Christina explains the terrifying reality of rape as one of the most common, effective and cheapest weapons of war. A weapon that is used with almost complete impunity. Christina demands that we must end the silence and ensure war rape is taken as seriously as other war crimes and crimes against humanity. Christina Lamb is Chief Foreign Correspondent at The Sunday Times, one of Britain’s leading foreign journalists and a bestselling author. She’s won numerous journalism awards and written nine books, including co-writing the international bestseller I am Malala with Malala Yousafzai and her latest award-winning book, Our Bodies, Their Battlefields. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
