Coral Vita Part II - OCEANS Project e005

How do you plant coral fragments successfully onto a reef? Coral Vita, the winners of the Earthshot Prize took us on a few dives and showed us how they do it.

In our last episode we talked about how Coral Vita came into being and how they tackled the biggest problem in Coral Reef Restoration, … scaling!

This time Coral Vita invited us to see what different methods they use to plant corals onto the reef.
They showed us how they use coral trees and coral tables to grow corals outside their lab to plant them back into the reef once they reach a certain size.
This is a very traditional method and works great on fast growing Staghorn and Elkhorn corals.
Apart from that we could film how the team prepared an exciting experiment, to see which corals need protection from predation and how they find out which ones are at risk.
