Becoming a Samurai | Self-Mastery and the Bushido Code

Описание к видео Becoming a Samurai | Self-Mastery and the Bushido Code

What did it take to become a Samurai in Ancient Japan? What is the Bushido Code? How did the Bushido give the Samurai purpose? And, why were the Samurai so willing to sacrifice their lives for these virtues and principles? Well, the Samurai are some interesting historical figures. Firstly, the Samurai were birthed during a century long period of bloody wars in japan, where local war lords were constantly in conflict with each other. Hence, the Samurai have been apart of some dark moments in Japanese history due to the times. However, as the age of wars in Japan subsided and as an era of peace took over, aka the Edo or Tokugawa period, the Samurai changed as well. Of course, they were still warriors at the core, but with less battles to fight in, they started taking on many more "normal" tasks; philosophy, art, business, politics, etc. However, what makes them interesting as a group of people is their code, or way of life. It didn't matter whether they were in the middle of a bloody battle, or selling goods at their local shop, the Samurai always followed a strict set of principles that they lived and died by. These principles which were based on the ideals of Confucianism and Buddhism are what is known as the Bushido Code, and this code, which breaks down into 8 key virtues, is what guided the Samurai in life and allowed them to achieve self-mastery. Therefore, let's jump right into this and learn just how the Samurai became such iconic figures in Japanese history by understanding their virtues and way of life.
