This is Thornbury Hill, an excpetional 00 Gauge Finescale model railway set in the outskirts of London on the Victoria to Brighton mainline. The layout was originally constructed by Burgess Hill MRC in the 70s to depict the early 1930s. The current owners of Thornbury Hill have since updated it to now reflect the 1960s with steam, diesel and electric motive power all featuring on both mainline and suburban services.

The track is handbuilt and the signals all operate and interlock with the points too. Running a large layout like this while sticking to a busy schedule is no easy task and there were several operators keeping the trains running when I was able to view the layout at The Bluebell Model Railway Weekend 2022.

Thornbury Hill may be one of the older model railways on the exhibition circuit these days but it certainly doesn't look it. Hopefully it will be around for many more years to come, entertaining viewers who stop to watch the trains race by.
