केदारनाथ धाम के लिए सोनप्रयाग-गौरीकुंड से इतर नया रास्ता खोज लिया गया है। यह चौमासी गांव में है, जो गुप्तकाशी से कालीमठ और यहां से 25 किमी आगे 2100 मी. ऊंचाई पर है। चौमासी से केदारनाथ मंदिर की दूरी 19 किमी है, जो सोनप्रयाग से मंदिर तक के 21 किमी लंबे मौजूदा रूट से 2 किमी कम है..केदारनाथ का नया रास्ता मिला, यह 2KM छोटा:कालीमठ से 25 किमी दूर चौमासी से शुरू होगा; इस पर घास के मैदान ज्यादा, चढ़ाई कम कालीमठ से 25 किमी दूर चौमासी से शुरू होगा; इस पर घास के मैदान ज्यादा, चढ़ाई कम|देश ,National - Dainik Bhaskar आपदा के बाद से चारधाम यात्रा एक जुलाई से पूरी तरह से बंद है। केवल हेलीकॉप्टर सेवा चल रही है।

31 जुलाई को केदारनाथ से 6 किमी पहले भीमबली में बादल फटने के बाद 15 हजार लोग फंस गए थे। 7 दिन बाद जैसे-तैसे सभी को सुरक्षित निकाला जा सका। इस आपदा से सबक लेते हुए रुद्र प्रयाग जिला प्रशासन ने मंदिर के वैकल्पिक रास्ते की खोज के लिए एक रेकी दल बीते शुक्रवार को चौमासी से रवाना किया था।
यह दल लौट आया है। इसने अपनी रिपोर्ट अभी शासन को नहीं दी है, लेकिन, दल को लीड कर रहे एक्सपर्ट ने नाम न छापने की शर्त पर बताया कि चौमासी रूट पर भूस्खलन का खतरा नहीं है, क्योंकि यहां पहाड़ी नाले नहीं हैं।नए रूट पर घास के मैदान ज्यादा, चढ़ाई कम रूट का बड़ा हिस्सा खास बुग्याल यानी पहाड़ों पर घास के मैदानों से होकर गुजरता है। वर्तमान ट्रैक 10 से 12 हजार फीट ऊपर है, जबकि नए रूट की ऊंचाई 6 से 9 हजार फीट के बीच है। इस पर चढ़ाई कम है और यह वन्यजीव अभ्यारण्य से होकर गुजरता है। यहां किसी भी स्थिति में हेलीकॉप्टर सेवाएं सुचारू बनी रहेंगी।
