"Bímís Ag Ól" (Jig)

This jig is the melody of a song whose chorus in Irish starts Agus bímis ag ól ‘s ag ól is ag ól and translates to something like “And we drink and drink and drink.” I learned this tune from The Pipering of Willie Clancy released in 1983. The full track title is bímis ag ól is ag pógadh na mban and translates to something like “Let us be drinking and kissing the women.” Willie Clancy lived from 1918 to 1973 and the annual music festival Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy (Willie Clancy Summer School) bears his name.

I include a transcription and arrangement of "Bímís Ag Ól" in my forthcoming book: 20 Essential Uilleann Piping Tunes, Vol. 1. The sheet music (including suggested ornamentation and variations) is available now on Amazon:
