While watching one of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’s 2018 episodes from Indianapolis, RISD curator Elizabeth Williams made an intriguing discovery. She watched in awe as Michael Grogan appraised Erik Magnussen’s original design drawing for a Gorham silver “cubic coffee set” — the very set that she knew was currently on display at the Rhode Island School of Design. This past spring, ROADSHOW met up with Williams at the museum and learned what it was like for her to see the $10,000 to $15,000 drawing on her television screen that night, and what the museum did next to unite the newly discovered design drawing with the finished piece it inspired.
