After the Japanese invasion and the capitulation on March 8, 1942 , presenter Garthoff ended the broadcast with the words "We are closing now. Goodbye, until better times. Long live the Queen." NIROM then broadcast another week and, to the surprise of the listeners, still decided to broadcast the Wilhelmus . When the Japanese realized what that music was, three broadcasters were executed. They were JPJW Kusters, N. van der Hoogte and V. Kudding.
