The infamous DJ Brockie & MC Det are one of the most celebrated DJ/MC duos that are still going on strong until this present day. They have been doing sets together since the early 90s and approaching the 30 year mark. They played sets at all the epic Jungle and Drum & Bass nights from, One Nation, Slammin' Vinyl, United Dance, Warning, True Playaz, Desire, Kool Skool, Jungle Fever, Accelerated Culture, Innovation, Breakin' Science, World Dance, Heat, Roast, Thunder & Joy, The Movement, Jungle Nation, Bass Odyssey, Telepathy, Jungle Mania, Desert Storm, Innersense, Club Kool, The Designer Label Ball, Universal Jungle, Jungle Splash, Jungle Soundclash, Pure Science, Jungle Dawn, Rush 2000, and lots of other well known rave nights.
Det's distinctive voice set him on a path of his own. He could host sets and is considered part of the old guard who crossed over from Hardcore to Jungle music scene. Over the years he began to incorporate more lyrics until he established himself as one of the most popular MCs of the late 90s era. He was incredibly popular on the rave circuit, in particular at his residency, Jungle Fever.
A year earlier in 1996, he released his first Jungle album on S.O.U.R Label (Sound Of The Underground Records) with, MC Det ‎– Out Of Det. Featuring tracks made by the likes of T Power, Shy FX, Ed Solo and L Double. The album was full of hits: Stick Up (Elementz Of Noize Remix), So Simple (Unguided Lights Mix), Can't Sample Det (Unguided Lights Mix), Freeform Reality (Feat. Viveen Wray), We Nuh Ease Up (Shy FX Remix), Abducted (T Power Remix) (DJ Soul Slinger Remix), Elevate (Unguided Lights Mix), Can U Feel (Innerworld Mix), Dub Plate Special (L Double Mix), Amber (Live At Dance Matrix, Tokyo), Nuclear Det (Live At Jungle Sky Launch, N.Y.C), Freeform Reality (Native Bass Slo Breaks Remix). They were played on pirate radios across London, especially supported by Kool FM and dropped at many rave nights during that era.
By 1998, MC Det was constantly trying to expand his career and he already started parring with the likes of Skibadee (decades before the SASASAS). In fact a year later in 1998, they released their first UK Hip Hop singles "New Style Avengers" and "Slowmo" - Two Times Freestyle, which raised their profile.
DJ Brockie was the dub plate king. He would play the most exclusive tracks way in advance of their actual release and would play exclusive unreleased mixes of tracks that are still sought after by vinyl junkies worldwide. Brockie was a household name that would usually play the primetime sets at raves and was warmly received by his true followers. The duo gained an incredible following and were an inspiration to a lot of DJs and MCs growing up, not just within the Drum & Bass and Jungle scene, but also inspiring Garage, Grime and Dubstep DJs, MCs, producers and artists.
Brockie's music production career got to a slow start with his first release on Kool FM's, K Power Records, Brockie - Brock-Out, in 1996. Then releasing hit tracks many years later, in 2001, on Sonic Art Recordings, Brockie, DJ Kane & Ed Solo ‎– Stampede / Outboard (2001). Brockie, DJ Kane, Ed Solo ‎– Shallow Mindz / Fantasy (2001). DJ Brockie ‎– VIP Remics EP - Brockie & Ed Solo - Get Raw (Undiluted Recordings, 2001).
