My Valentine's Day Soap is 6.9% REAL Dark Chocolate!

Valentine's Day is nigh, so I'll show you how to make handcrafted artisan cold processed soap that checks all the boxes: romantic, fruity, and chocolatey! Valentine's Day, and Valentine's Week in general, is the time to celebrate chocolate because chocolate is the symbol of love. For this frosted soap in particular, I went with a chocolate covered strawberry fragrance profile (provided by New Directions Aromatics and Voyageur Soap and Candle, respectively) and felt it was only right to put REAL 70% dark chocolate into the soap! Yes, you can put chocolate into soap. Cocoa butter and cocoa solids are very popular soap additives!

First things first, I needed to prepare the soap embeds. I made Valentine's hearts out of no-sweat melt and pour soap and a little red mica, using a silicone heart mold that I picked up at Michaels for pretty cheap. Next, I whipped up some soap batter and separated my chocolate portion and strawberry portion - I made a huge error while doing this, and you'll need to watch the video to find out what it is! (Hint: it involves an incorrect lye and superfat ratio... oops).

I whipped up some soap frosting to pipe on top of my Valentine's soap, drizzled a red mica/oil blend on top, added my red heart soap embeds, threw some food-grade sprinkles on top, and my soap was ready to go! Honestly, the soap frosting looked just like ice cream with a strawberry drizzle and I desperately wanted to take a bite out of it.

Just a note, make sure to read the reviews for your fragrances! My strawberry fragrance, though a delicious aroma, has a reputation for separating soap batter and could have resulted in disaster. Luckily, I took some precautions and soaped cooler so my soap wouldn't separate. The fragrance also discolours to yellow over time, which actually works in my favour because yellows make pinks more red!
