HOW TO MAKE A SPOOKY CHEESECLOTH GHOST

Materials Needed:
• 1 Water balloon inflated to approximately 3”-5”
• 1 Tall cup
• Tape
• 2 Hangers
• 2 Tin foil panels cut into 7” strips
• 2-3 yards of cheesecloth cut into 1-1.5 yard pieces
• Liquid fabric stiffener
• Black felt
• Glue

Tools needed:
• Needle nose pliers
• Large baking pan
• Medium size bowl
• Scissors
• Needle

Making the Frame
Step 1. Set the balloon into the cup and securely tape it to the rim.
Step 2. Using the needle nose pliers, cut off the bottom portions of both hangers.
Step 3. To create the arms, securely tape one hanger wire to the side of the cup, starting at the bottom and running
to the top. At the point where the wire meets the top of the cup, bend the wire outward. Repeat this step to make
the second arm.
Step 4. In the middle of the wire make a bend to create the elbow joint. Using the pliers, bend the end of each wire
arm downward into a circle and then ball up one piece of tin foil around each hand.

Making the Ghost
Step 5. Pour the liquid fabric stiffener into the bowl. Set your baking pan upside down on the table and place your
ghost on top of it.
Step 6. Soak one piece of cheesecloth and wring it out. Open the cheesecloth back up and drape it over your ghost.
Tips: Make sure your ghost has at least 1-2 inches of cheesecloth bunched up around the bottom to create a base.
Move the cheese cloth around so it drapes between the head and the hands and then adjust as needed. Repeat this
step so you have two pieces of cheesecloth on your ghost, giving it greater stability.
Step 7. Let it dry for 12-24 hours.
Step 8. Pop the balloon with a needle and slowly remove the cheesecloth from the tin foil and glass and set it aside.
Step 9. Cut out three ovals from the black felt. Glue two ovals on to the head for the eyes and the remaining oval
for the mouth.

Find the perfect place to display your ghost and enjoy!
