Maximum Heart Rate Explained // Running Physiology

Описание к видео Maximum Heart Rate Explained // Running Physiology

Using heart rate as a training tool for endurance athletes is very popular. It does however depend on you knowing your maximal heart rate. Let's talk about how the heart works, how to determine your maximum heartrate and how to use it as a training tool!

The heart is a wonderful organ that pumps blood around the body and thus delivers oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. In the case of a distance runner, we're interested in getting that oxygen delivered to our skeletal muscles, helping us run!

The heart rate then, becomes an indicator of our exercise intensity and we can use that as a tool to guide our training as endurance athletes.

We need to know our max HR though, if this is going to work. The max HR is the maximum amount of beats that your heart does in a minute while working at maximal capacity.

Questions like these will be answered in the video:

- Can you calculate your maximum heart rate by doing 220 minus your age or with some other formula?

- Can you directly compare heartrates between two athletes?

- Is a higher heartrate better than a lower one or vice versa?

- Is the max heartrate trainable? Is it even a measure of cardiovascular fitness in the first place?

This and much more will be discussed in this video as I get into some juicy exercise physiology topics! My favorite subject indeed!
