Tariq ibn Ziyad, the Muslim Berber conqueror of the Iberian Peninsula! (711-718 AD) Ṭāriq ibn Ziyād (670 – c. 720 AD) was the Muslim Umayyad commander who initiated the conquest of the Iberian peninsula (Modern day Spain and Portugal) in 711, resulting in the takeover of most of the peninsula from the previous Visogothic kingdom and the establishment of Al-Andalus, the Islamic dominated parts of the Iberian peninsula in 711-1492 AD.
