Just Transition Platform Conference, April 2024 – Skills for green future

The green transition is providing the opportunity for new jobs to be created, yet the workforce needed to facilitate this transition does not yet exist.

As part of this transition towards a green future, changes in the labour market will include the loss of jobs in sectors such as in coal, peat, lignite, oil share, and carbon-intensive industries, the creation of new jobs linked with the environment and sustainable activities, as well the transformation of jobs to meet changing demands for new and different skills and industries.  

This session of the Just Transition Platform Conference looked at what is being done at different levels to ensure the workforce has the skills needed to support this transition, including through reskilling, upskilling and initiatives taking place in Just Transition Fund regions, and what actions are being taken by different stakeholders at the European level.
