We hope you have a wonderful Atheist Experience today! This is going to be a wild show because we have both Secular Rarity and Richard Gilliver hosting. Will we get some spicy calls or some wild and out there claims? Yeah, probably so.
John in CA thanks the show because it helped him to choose his current faith. Apparently he just takes the bible 100% literally. John uses the greek word “logos” to mean the laws of physics, therefore god is the laws of physics but is outside the laws of physics. It’s all just weird and out there claims and the antithesis of literal. Yeah, I think we’ll just take the metaphorical blue pill and not tumble down this particular rabbit hole.
Buddy in MI gives his take on the previous call by pointing out the meaning of “The Beginning” in christianity’s creation story. There’s some good evidence showing how the Abrahamic religions build off of the previous creation myth. It can be a really interesting conversation with theists but you do need to parse out what they mean.
Yetmas in FL thinks it’s absurd that atheists are asking for evidence of a god. Shouldn’t one ask for evidence before believing fantastical claims? Faith isn’t evidence. The claim isn’t evidence. We care about what is true and won’t just believe any claim out there unless it’s backed by evidence.
Billy in The UK wants us to prove love. Love is a concept largely based on some chemicals and feelings in our body. There is more to it than just chemicals that you could nail down, but the concept of love still exists. Humans understand music and you can tie down the science of how music is created but that’s not all there is to it. That said, none of this applies to an existent god. The concept of a god exists but there hasn’t been any evidence you can nail down scientifically to prove any god.
David in CA claims God has something to do with the origin of the cosmos because there is no natural explanation. The New Testament can’t be evidence, it’s the claim. The book says something is a horrible reason to believe in gods.
Jon in Canada people have faith because life is difficult and they want some reassurance. Again a poor, if not straight up bad, reason to believe in a god. Some people have, and will, believe for reassurances but they shouldn’t.
Bravo in the USA the schism between believers or not is a non traversal gap, you have to be emotionally invested in the concept to believe. We’ve had some amazing conversations with believers when everyone is ready to really get down to the meat of the argument. Sincere interlocutors can come to a common ground.
