Hey Guys! TGIF.

As I'm sure you all have heard by now, yesterday rapper Azealia Banks gave the interview to end all interviews to Rosenberg and Ebro over at NYC radio station Hot 97. The interview touched on everything from cultural appropriation to metallurgy to how she got started in rap- like I said, it was the interview to end all interviews. She got extremely emotional at certain points, tearing up when expressing the depth of her love for hip-hop and Black culture, and the fears she experiences about the whitewashing of the genre and what she calls a 'cultural smudging' by mainstream culture to erase Black creatives.

Similar to other interviews given by rappers J. Cole and David Banner, Banks utilizes white rapper Igloo Australia, along with Eminem and Macklemore, as some of the most prominent examples of white privilege. She also touches on the extremely important, and often unspoken, effects this whitewashing is having on up and coming young Black artists and the role that the media is playing in the creation of these narratives.

The interview was passionate, poignant, and extremely relatable. It is certainly worth watching. Here is my take on some of the things she said.
