The New Haven Railroad: History of a Design

If there's one thing the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad is known for, it was probably their flashy and sharp paint scheme created by Herbert Matter in 1954. The New Haven always seemed to be struggling financially, despite their modern equipment. Attempting to remedy this, the controversial Patrick B. McGinnis commissioned a drastic rebranding project in hopes of regaining passenger and shareholder interest in their trains. So, how successful was the redesign and what became of the New Haven Railroad?
