Al-Maqasid Weekend Retreat on, ‘The Remembrance of Death & The Afterlife: A Study of Book 40 of the Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din,’ focuses on the last of the forty books in Imam al-Ghazali’s masterpiece, Revival of Religious Sciences.

Allah the Exalted says, Say, “The death you are running away from will inevitably come to you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the seen and unseen, and He will inform you of what you used to do.” [Quran 62:8]

This series of five lessons covers a variety of topics including: the merit of remembering death and brief hopes; the account of the Prophet’s passing ﷺ; the true nature of and experiences after death; and the major events of the Afterlife.

In this first session, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus begins with a brief introduction of Imam al-Ghazali and his work Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din and then discusses the merit of remembering death.
