Karijini National Park's Iconic Gorges | Kermit's Pool and Handrail Pool | Episode 48

It's time to dig into the guts of Karijini National Park.

After leaving our free camp near Hamersley Gorge, we're off to the main section of Karijini National Park. We aired down for the horrendously corrugated and rough 'short-cut' along the Warlu Way and were relieved to briefly be back on the blacktop.

We based ourselves at the only National Park campground in Karijini, Dales Campground. But first, we stopped at the Karijini visitor information centre to get the rundown of what walks and other highlights there were to see in the park.

The following day we kicked things off with a short walk to Oxer's Lookout to get a feel for the area. Although we managed to leave all our maps in the caravan back at camp, we managed to find our way to the first hike for the day.

The relatively short but challenging walk down into Hancock Gorge (which involves getting wet and some swimming) rewards you with a swim in the famous Kermit's Pool. This picturesque and serene place is the perfect place to hang out and wait for the day's heat to pass.

Back to the car for a quick lunch, and we're back into another gorge. This time it's Weano Gorge; the target is another of Karijini's highlights, the Handrail Pool. Another short and challenging walk-in leads through a narrow section before opening into an impressive amphitheatre and a large pool.

Despite the freezing water, we explored a little further down the gorge until we reached a point where we could go no further—a brilliant way to end an incredible day in Karijini National Park.
