I first heard this song from a friend's cover last year, and it immediately captivated me with its soft, intimate tone and beautifully simple acoustic arrangement. I remember being so surprised by the lyrical twist on the last chorus and at that moment I knew this song was brilliant--it was, quite simply, a love song for me. A love song to all the lonely people who are in love with fictional characters and the idea of relationships but have never had one themselves, and that made me feel pretty seen honestly LOL. I wasn't planning on covering it when I first heard it, but I got a ukulele from my sister for Christmas last year (thank you to her!!), and was just playing the song for fun on it since I thought it was pretty. I quickly realized that it was SO pretty it needed to be covered, and became inspired to make a post-rock version with all my favorite atmospheric Ebow guitars and a big massive build to an explosive final chorus--and man, was it WORTH IT!! I knew immediately Isaa was the absolutely perfect choice for vocals on this song, and arranged it with her in mind--I am so incredibly happy and grateful she was down to work on it with me! Her voice is unbelievable and to be able to feature it on this arrangement is an honor 🙏. This cover has become one of my favorites for sure, and I hope you all enjoy it as well!
