Post-Match Commentary :
Nippon new coach - Masayoshi Manabe onboard in 2009. He was being the 2nd pass setter the longest duration in the men's national team since 80s. He led Nippon obtained 2012 London Olympic Bronze medal. It was the half century women team best record ever. In 2009, Nippon team kept using new form and combination to find the best team. There were more than 30-40 players selected in national team for trial play. Nippon beat down Brazil, Italy and lots of European teams in World grand Prix earlier. The team performance was the best in 20 years. #12 Saori Kimura (24yo, 1.85m) became the star player since 2010. Her power had increased and always the most scored player. #3 Yoshie Takeshita (32yo, 1.59m), #5 Ai Ōtomo (28yo, 1.84m), #4 Kaori Inoue (27yo, 1.82m) , #7 Yamaguchi Mai (27yo, 1.76m) were the main players. In 2010, there were two new star players in Nippon squad - #14 Yukiko Ebata (21yo, 1.76m) & #16 Saori Sakoda (23yo, 1.75m). They were probably the best short players who can backrow attack strongly.
#12 Natália Pereira (21yo, 1.86m), #16 Fernanda Garay (24yo, 1.8m) were the new players. The core members still the Olympic gold players #1 Fabiana Claudino (25yo, 1.94m), #6 Thaísa Menezes (23yo, 1.96m), #8 Jaqueline Carvalho (27yo, 1.87m), #13 Sheilla Castro (27yo, 1.86m). Brazil target to get the champion of this torunament as they were 2008 Olympic gold medal holder. 2006 lost to Russia was very upset by them. They have won Russia all 5-6 games before but lost to the final game 2:3 in previous edition. This time the gold championship match was again Russia vs Brazil. In World Grand Prix, Japan won Brazil 3:2. Brazil remained unbeatable in this tournament while Japan lost to China and Russia in preliminary round. In this match, 2nd set was record high with 35:33 score of the whole tournament. Brazil scoring was very balanced in this match. In 1st two set, Japan #12 & #14 with very high efficiency rate. Both of them hit 70+ balls in this 5 set match. Nippon #12 got 29 points while #14 got 25 points. Brazil got 21 block points while Japan only 7. Brazil mistakes made was 34 vs 20 in Japan. Brazil #13 & #12 got 25 & 23 points respectively while two middle blockers got 20 & 12 points. This match was the most intense match of the whole tournament. Vs 2022 World championship preliminary round when Japan beat Brazil match, you can see the standard of level of 2010 Japanese squad was way better than 2022 one, also for Brazilian squad.
