Impressions/observations during the test drive:
The exterior design of the Raize leans more on the rugged outdoorsy vibe rather than sportiness like some of its competition such as the Geely Coolray and Kia Stonic. The plastic cladding around the vehicle gives one a sense that this can be brought to some light off-roading situations, which makes sense considering that this car is available with a 4X4 model in Japan. Moving over into the interior, the same theme is also evident with its materials and general layout. One might also be a little bit reminded of the RAV4 in terms of this. It is to be noted though, that there are no A/C vents for the 2nd row. The wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is a useful feature of the car's infotainment screen which gives the interior modernity. When using it, one would find it responsive and easy to use. Compared to the Raize G, this Raize Turbo has a larger infotainment screen though. Another nice feature it has is the customizable RPM-gauge, with 4 different options of design. The drive mode button placement is another good thing this car has since it is on the steering wheel, which means the driver would not need to remove a hand from the wheel to turn on and off power mode. Another thing this has that the Raize G does not is blind-spot warning and curtain airbags.
The turbocharged engine of this car makes it feel quicker compared to the Raize G with the naturally aspirated engine, especially when the turbo spools up and gives boost. On quick stints of acceleration, the engine is peppy and is fun to drive quickly. The engine is quite audible too, which sounds quite nice. Like the Raize G, power is transferred from the engine to the front wheels by a CVT which simulates gears nicely in manual mode. It responds well to inputs for both up-shifting and down-shifting, which makes it better than the previously featured Chery Tiggo 2 Pro's CVT. When slowing down into a stop, there is almost a stutter that is being felt but it is just a little bit and is probably attributable to the CVT of the Raize. Other than that, the CVT in automatic mode is smooth enough which makes the driving experience smooth at cruising speeds. The steering is light which is good for city driving conditions. However, with the steering being light-weighted it means that there is not much feedback from the tires transmitted into the steering wheel. In comparison, the Tiggo 2 Pro's steering is heavier. Both the accelerator and brake pedals respond well enough and safely to the driver's inputs. Overall, the chassis feels well-put together, though it has body roll when cornering which is to be expected from a sub-compact crossover SUV.
