Is Seah Im Food Centre Worth A Visit? | Singapore Hawker Food

In this episode of Singapore Hawker Food, we share with you our visit to the Seah Im Food Centre and explore the Singapore halal hawker food options here.

For the Singapore Hawker Food series, we will be visiting various Singapore Hawker Centres to discover the different Singapore halal hawker food and street food being sold at these hawker centres.

Conveniently located a mere 2-minute walk from HarbourFront MRT and directly opposite HarbourFront Centre, Seah Im Food Centre is an ever-crowded food centre, be it with shoppers from Vivocity, office workers from the nearby towers or visitors to Sentosa Island.

Seah Im has been housing famous stalls offering delicious hawker food and is a definite must-try for hawker and street food lovers. 

We had food from 3 different stalls, Ayam Bakar Abang Botak, Thaksin Beef Noodles and Daliman’s Korner. All these stalls are either Muslim-owned or MUIS Halal Certified.

From Ayam Bakar Abang Botak, we had the Nasi Ayam Bakar Ballado. This is an Indonesian dish which has grown in popularity among the Halal Food lovers in Singapore.

As for Thaksin Beef Noodles, what else could we have but that lovely authentic halal Thai Beef Noodles. To have this in a Singapore Hawker Centre and being halal, it is simply amazing.

Heading over to Daliman’s Korner, we go with a traditional dish, Gado Gado. Originally from Indonesia, Gado Gado is a mix of boiled potatoes, bean curd, tempeh, vegetables and egg, which is then smothered with peanut sauce and topped with crackers.

What is a hawker?

A hawker in the Singapore context is someone who sells street food and now known as hawker food. In the old days, this was from a roadside stall or a pushcart. These days, hawkers can be found in coffee shops, hawker centres, and food courts (air-conditioned hawker centres). Hawkers usually specialise in a particular cuisine, sometimes in just one dish.

You can find hawker centres and food courts everywhere, including downtown whereas coffee shops tend to be located in the suburbs.
