A New Game

A New Game is a documentary short about Larry Mongo, owner and proprietor of Cafe D'Mongo's Speakeasy in downtown Detroit, who brings a razor sharp street sense to his search for spiritual understanding. The film opens with a confrontation between Larry and an interloper, where we first encounter Larry's poetic, comedic and direct communication style. As the film continues, we are entertained by Larry's charismatic storytelling as we discover many unexpected aspects of his life and journey including an extensive art and antiquities collection and conversion to Judaism. Because Larry shares himself so generously in A New Game, we feel an intimate connection to him by the end of the film and our appreciation for his courage and authenticity inspires us to greater expressions of love in our own lives.
