I recently had a wedding at an all new location, which is pretty rare for me these days. I'm very familiar with most of the venues here in Michigan, so doing a destination wedding down at the Ritz Carlton Resort in Naples, FL was the perfect opportunity for me to talk about what I look for when scouting a new location.

I think scouting is a very beneficial skill for preparation as a photographer, and even a short scout can really improve your quality of work when it comes time to perform. So in this video, I talk about the things I look for, everything from how I pick locations, and how I use those locations to move through the day as efficiently as possible.

I'm sure there will be a lot of questions about gear used in the images. I brought down a smaller kit of all primes. Sony 24 1.4 GM, 35 1.4 Zeiss, 50 1.4 Zeiss, Sony 85 1.4 GM, and Sony 135 GM. For lighting I primarily used a 24x24" pop up softbox with 2x AD200 on an AD-B2. The only other modifier I used was a 65" reflective umbrella for the family portraits. I'll share specific lighting details on images on my instagram, linked above.
