120 metres above the largest onshore wind farm in Europe, host Nick Thorpe can see all the way to the Black Sea to the east, while Germany is in sight when looking west. In this episode, we learn about the history that lives up and down this historical river. From political prisoners who were forced to excavate the Danube canal in the hard winters in the 1950s, to the Russians who took refuge in Ottoman Turkey from the religious persecution they faced in their Russian homeland.

A river that flows through 10 countries, starting from Germany's Black Forest and ending in the Black Sea, the Danube is the second-longest river in Europe. Flowing through much of Central and South-eastern Europe, no other river in the world runs through as many countries making it so unique. Containing rich history from World War II and beyond, to offering a variety of wildlife, the Danube is truly an impressive sight. Nick Thorpe takes us on a journey up and down the Danube to explore all the greatness that it holds.
