We visited Knaresborough in North Yorkshire, England with our 3 kids, during our visit to the United Kingdom! https://createplaytravel.com We saw Knaresborough's annual bed race and we hiked through Brimham Rocks National Trust.

For accommodations, we stayed in a home through Trusted Housesitters and watched a family dog for 2 weeks. Trusted Housesitters is a great resource to make travel affordable, because you can get free housing in exchange for watching peoples' pets.

In Knaresborough, we visited the historic weekly market and bought fresh fruit and hats. Nearby, the Knaresborough castle is the local 900-year-old ruined fortress that once was a medieval stronghold. Down by the River Nidd, we saw the Knaresborough Railway Viaduct which is an iconic landmark for the area. We thought that Knaresborough was a great walking town and we really enjoyed our low-key two weeks visiting there.

In addition to exploring, we got to see some local color. We watched the annual Knaresborough Bed Race. This event began with a best dressed bed contest, a parade through downtown, and ended with the actual bed race. More than 90 teams pushed their bed-like carts along the bed race route, ending by crossing the River Nidd with their beds. It was fun to see how local businesses and community groups participated in the Knaresborough Bed Race.

Another afternoon we visited Brimham Rocks, which is a National Trust with hiking trails and lots of unique rock formations. Overall, we really enjoyed our adventures in Knaresborough and nearby in North Yorkshire, England.
