Hello Friends!

A few months ago a lovely lady contacted me about recreating Gorgon's Grotto with a few color changes.. after much thought and several test pours, this is the video of Shiela's Dream..

We had talked about using a turquoise basecoat instead of black, and I wanted to incorporate Golden's Green Gold since we were using Turquoise.

When I was thinking about which Gold to use I had a problem lol.. I wanted to use my favorite DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics in 24K, my magic cell maker, but I also really wanted to use Golden's Iridescent Gold too, for the amazing sparkle it creates. I also wanted to use DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics in Soft Gold, because that sometimes appears almost silvery, and I thought it would be interesting with these colors.
What to do? How to choose?
In the end, I chose to use all 3, and see if we could see the effects of each different gold in the painting.

The other interesting thing was that my clients saw my Green Peace pour and really enjoyed it, and wanted to marry that pour with Gorgon's Grotto.. challenge accepted!

My Colors are:
Golden's
- Payne's Gray
- Turquoise Phthalo
- Green Gold
- Anthraquinone Blue
- Iridescent Gold (Bright)
DecoArt Americana
Decor Metallics
- Emerald Green
- 24K Gold
- Soft Gold

My Pouring Medium is:
Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish
Water as needed
Floetrol

I did 5 straight pours on the canvas, then used turquoise and the drips from a test pour (same colors) from the day before.

I was being very careful tilting, because I had lost a lot of paint on the first tilt of my last 48x60 and I didn't want it to happen again. Practice makes perfect, I did it! 😉

I really love how this piece came out.. you can see all the different colors, from the very dark Payne's Gray to the Turquoise and Green Gold..I see a lot of the Soft Gold (the silvery looking parts) and the 24K Gold, but not as much of the Golden's Gold. Perhaps that one needed to be a bit thicker to not get lost. It did add a beautiful sparkle to the painting tho, so I'm happy I used it.

I really enjoy these big canvases, every time I learn something new with them. After watching this video I wish I had used a white basecoat instead of the cups of drips, but I still love the outcome.
