In the winter of 2023, our filmmakers Roman and Mykhailo traveled to the Big Island of Hawaii to capture the beauty of the largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago. Drawn by its lush valleys and volcanic landscapes, they set out to document the island’s vibrant natural world in cinematic detail. One of the highlights of their journey was the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, where they carefully filmed the remarkable diversity of tropical plants thriving in this rainforest sanctuary — from towering palms and giant bamboo to delicate flowering species rooted in rich volcanic soil.

Interesting fact: Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is located in the Onomea Valley on the Hamakua Coast and spans over 40 acres of tropical rainforest. The garden features more than 2,000 species of tropical plants from around the world, including rare palms, orchids, heliconias, and giant bamboo. The valley’s unique microclimate — with frequent rain showers and volcanic soil — allows exotic plants to thrive year-round, making it one of the most diverse botanical gardens in the United States. Its location along the rugged coastline also provides dramatic ocean views combined with dense jungle landscapes.
