Is the Kaveri engine ready for testing trials, India's much-anticipated fighter jet engine?

India has been working on the Kaveri engine for over 30 years, a project led by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE). After facing many challenges, the engine has now been cleared for inflight testing, marking a major milestone in India's pursuit of self-reliance in advanced aerospace technology. This achievement brings India closer to having its own advanced jet engine, a dream that has been years in the making.

The Kaveri engine has gone through extensive testing, including ground tests and simulations, to ensure its performance. Currently, it can generate a dry thrust of around 49-51 kN, which is suitable for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). However, with an afterburner, the engine's thrust could increase to 73-75 kN, making it capable of powering fighter jets. This progress reflects the hard work of the DRDO and GTRE teams, who have worked tirelessly to advance India's aerospace capabilities.
