INTRODUCING: The Brand-New, 2023 Breguet Type 20 and Type XX Flyback Chronographs Fully Explained

Breguet has longstanding unique links to aviation. Its most iconic pilot watch, the Type XX and the Type 20 (there's indeed a difference, between civilian vs. military models) needs little introduction.

In the early fifties, the French Ministry of Defense drew up specifications with a view to purchasing chronograph wristwatches for its Air Force, to be known as Type 20watch. Drawing on its experience in the field, Breguet expressed its interest and designed a model that was quickly approved by the authorities before entering the legend… The Breguet Type 20 was introduced as a pilot's watch equipped with a flyback chronograph. (the retour en vol function), a pear-shaped crown, a two-counter display and a fluted bezel with a triangular marker. Several models went on, with the launch of the Breguet Type XX models made for civilian use, often with 3-counter display and a bi-directional rotating bezel with 12-hour scale. In the 1990s, the watch came back with the Type XX 3800st, a modernized edition that has been produced for over 2 decades. Some 70 years after its creation, Breguet launches a new version of this pilot chronograph. This modern take on this watchmaking icon comes in two versions celebrating the military heritage of the model and its civilian history. And there is more: Breguet also designed a new, high-end chronograph movement to power this new Type XX and new Type 20.
