Mountain Pride: Freedom to Be-Art Show at Spade & Spatula-Interview with Laurel Antur & Beth Benson

In the 2024 Spade & Spatula Collaboration with the Crestline Creatrix Matrix, we're showing the work of Laurel Antur and 16 other artists in the Mountain Pride: Freedom to Be exhibition--the first of four art shows scheduled for 2024. In this conversation, Laurel and Beth talk about expressive arts, the importance of art making, the power of building creative community, the generosity of Spade & Spatula to host this dream and the creature people and liminal space Laurel visits and is visited by while bringing her art into being.

Laurel Antur makes these visitors from the liminal and other mountain creations from her life and time in Crestline. A mountain resident for 22 years and my first best art friend on the mountain, her work has inspired me to find some walls for a gallery that can show it off.

This first exhibition, MOUNTAIN PRIDE: Freedom to Be, up at Spade & Spatula- Ca. Gastropub through July 13th, is a collaboration with the Crestline Creatrix Matrix inviting artists and art works that emerged from the making tables there to meet the mountain artists who have already been a part of the restaurant ambiance.

Laurel Antur is a featured artist with works that tell a new and different story every time you look at them. Worthy of collection, these pieces inspire imaginative narratives and invite the viewer/collector on a journey into the liminal with guides and companions in the hares, snow beings, and baby crones that emerge in the cold wax, oil, acrylic and mixed media events that are her artworks.
