Summary
At the very outset of the poem, Chaucer as a narrator prays to the Greek goddess Tisiphone to help so that he can narrate the tragic story of Troilus and Criseyde. According to Greek mythology, Tisiphone is one of the goddesses of revenge and chaos.
কবিতার একেবারে শুরুতে, কথক হিসেবে চসার গ্রীক দেবী টিসফোনের কাছে সাহায্যের জন্য প্রার্থনা করেন যাতে তিনি ট্রয়লাস এবং ক্রিসেডির করুণ কাহিনী বর্ণনা করতে পারেন। গ্রীক পৌরাণিক কাহিনী অনুসারে, টিসোফোন প্রতিশোধ এবং বিশৃঙ্খলার অন্যতম দেবী।
The poem starts in the middle of the battle between the Greeks and the Trojans. The Greeks set a camp around the outskirts of Troy City to lay siege to the Trojans. At this critical moment, Trojan priest Calchas betrays the Trojans and before joining the Greek camp, he writes his prediction on the walls of Troy how the Greeks will defeat the Trojans. Because of Calchas's betrayal, his widow daughter Criseyde becomes alone. When Criseyde learns about her father's betrayal, she seeks protection from Troilus's brother Hector because the Trojans may attack her to avenge his father's treachery. Hector ensures her protection.

Time passes and the war between the Greeks and Trojans wages on. To get rid of this difficult situation, the Trojans continuously sacrifice their animals to honor and satisfy the Greek Gods and Goddesses at the temple named Palladium. Criseyde attends one of these ceremonies. She wears a black dress to mourn her loss and her father's treason. Troilus is present in Palladium with a few of his fellow knights. He discourages his countrymen in the act of sacrificing and mocks the lovers who have come to the temple to get God's blessings.
