Some Exquisite Kritis & Some Rare Ragas of Tyagaraja in Muraliganam - Dr. M Balamuralikrishna

Today (04.05.2021) it is Saint Tyāgarāja's 255th Jayanti and we offer an album , containing some of his kritis in rare rāgas and a few rare kritis of him in the well-known rāgas.

The album is a compilation of the renditions of Dr. M Balamuralikrishna (BMK).

It must be recalled here that BMK belonged to the direct lineage from Saint Tyāgarāja. The distinctness of this lineage has been in the interpretation and rendition of the Saint’s outpourings in the form of kritis and kīrtanas. BMK’s USP is his idiom of presentation of Tyāgarāja’s compositions. His ability and mastery in mirroring the mood of the composer by singing with perfect diction and intonation, leading the listeners to experience what the original composer really intended to convey at the time of the creation of a given composition.

The album attempts to showcase some of the rare rāgas handled only by Saint Tyāgarāja and some of the rare kritis in the familiar rāgas. The audio tracks selected for this offering is a restoration of the recordings spanning over several decades and has 12 tracks.
