Port Henderson is located in Portmore, St Catherine, Jamaica (Caribbean).

It was established in the late 18th century as a port town. The town was first known as New Brighton but eventually came to be known as Port Henderson.

Port Henderson was named after the owner Colonel John Henderson of the militia who was responsible for its development.

Today it is a peaceful fishing village and famed for its nightlife activities.

The port town became important for the English as the depth of the water allowed vessels to come much nearer to the wharf.

Under Colonel John Henderson ownership a mineral spring was discovered. He cut a channel in the hillside and distributed the spring water to the rest of the town.

The town became a fashionable health resort during the 19th century because of its natural spa, with a small bath house erected over the springs.

This was considered as a form of tourism for Port Henderson but it didn't continue very long as the town was badly damaged by hurricane Charlie in 1951.

The famous spa was also destroyed and the underground source of the water shifted.

The main attraction for visitors today is the collection of historic buildings and gun emplacement.

The most notable of the buildings is the Old Water Police Station which is now home to the Rodney Arms Restaurant.

Rodney lived west on a summit of the Port Henderson Hills between 1780 - 1782, where the elevation provided an excellent vantage point.

The site is now called Rodney's lookout, an old signaling station.

The Rodney Arms Restaurants serves exclusively fresh fish with bammy, festival, rice and peas.

Rodney Arms also boasts spectacular views of the Kingston harbour and coastline

In the mid 18th century, Port Henderson was the principal port for Spanish Town.

Port Henderson fluctuated and in the 1840s with the introduction of the railway, but regained in the 1890s with the work of Ralph Hotchkin and the advent of Port Henderson as a banana pier
