In 1970 Doctor Who underwent several massive changes, not least another change in the lead actor.

But just because the Doctor had been successfully recast before didn't necessarily mean it would work again. Luckily, they cast a man who didn't seem to let that faze him at all.

Jon Pertwee waltzed into the show and made it his own so incredibly quickly that he probably had the most assured start in the part out of any of those first three leading men. His approach was vastly different from his predecessors, his Doctor becoming a far more sophisticated gentleman compared with the scruffy cosmic hobo he had regenerated from.

So as the man who assured once again that Doctor Who had a future, it's time before we move onto the Fourth Doctor's era to appraise the man behind the Third, Jon Pertwee...
