This trip was a self-planned 8 days, 7 nights trip to India's newest Union Territory Leh Ladakh. Leh Ladakh is one of the most beautiful destinations of our country offering history, serene monastery, culture, snow capped mountain ranges, cold desert, glacier rivers, biggest lakes and other unique geographical feature.
Day 1: We travelled from Kolkata to Leh via Delhi with Indigo airlines' early morning flight and reached Leh around 1pm.
Day 2: We spend the 1st official day in leh by visiting local attractions. We started our day by visiting Hall of Fame, which is a museum managed by Indian Army, then went ahead to explore Leh palace, Spituk Monastery, Tsemo Gompla etc. In the afternoon, we spend a few hours in Leh main market by shopping and exploring cafe.
Day 3: We spend the 2nd day in Leh Ladakh and went for a trip to Sham valley. Some of the attractions for the day included Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Likir and Alchi Monastery, Indus and Zanskar river confluence or Sangam point.
Day 4: On day 4, we left Leh and started our journey to Nubra Valley. Nubra valley is one of the most beautiful location in Ladakh. We crossed Khardung La Pass, which is the 2nd highest motorable road in the world which is around ~18000 Ft height from sea level. Next we visited Diskit Monastery, which is situated on a hill top and has a 106Ft high statue of Buddha. Finally, we did the most fun thing in the evening by visiting Hunder Sand Dunes and taking Double Hump camel ride. It was an incredible experience!
Day 5: On day 5, we visited Turtuk village which is a traditional village in Ladakh. Also we went to Thang village, which is the last village in India. When we reached India Pakistan border village, it was a real thrilling experience. We tried local fruits, bought some dry fruits, nuts from local villagers. On our way back, we stopped at an Indian army was memorial and Artisan village in Hunder.
Day 6: On day 6, we started the day very early as we had to travel a lot through treacherous road, but first we had some amazing dun ATV ride on the sand dunes in Nubra valley. Then continued the journey as Shyok river kept flowing with us. The road condition was extremely poor, no road at places. Had to go off-road several times, and encountered some river crossing as well. But in the end, we reached Pangong lake, which became extremely famous after the final scene of Bollywood movie 3 Idiots portrayed the beautiful lake.
Day 7: On day 7 we started from Tangste and crossed Chang La, the 3rd highest mountain pass in the world. Went on to visit the richest monastery in Ladakh, Hemis Monastery and then visited Thiksey Monastery. Later on, went to 3 Idiots famous Rancho school near Leh. Then came back to our hotel in Leh.
Disclaimer: It is always advisable to take it slow for the first 48 hours when visiting the unique landscape of Leh Ladakh. High altitude, lac of oxygen can lead to a serious health condition known as HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema). Take rest, eat light meal, fruits and drink plenty of water/juice etc. We majorly rested on our first day in Leh and walked through the nearby lanes.
