Making a Seaforth kilt, part five

Описание к видео Making a Seaforth kilt, part five

I've given the kilt its second press and then allowed it to dry thoroughly.
Now I'm going to add the top-band (the client has asked for a matching tartan top-band rather than the 'issue' narrow green cloth tape) and put in two really strong bar-tacks to bracket the 'buttonhole'.
I've sent an email asking his choice for buckles and straps:
a) the original style 'japanned' (black-lacquered) brass buckles with two tongues, of which I have a small supply of originals and a great many new-made replicas. These are paired with hand-cut straps in brown leather (which the soldier would then polish black with boot-black). This style was in use from the earliest days (ca.1860) until recently*.
or b) The current style which has a single tongue and is chrome/nickel plated, with a matching black leather strap.

*for all I know these are still in use by the Royal Regiment, but I haven't done any Army contracts for at least a couple of years, so I don't know.
