The Lydian Mode

Описание к видео The Lydian Mode

The Lydian mode, in its most basic form is created by playing the white notes between F and F.

Its most interesting feature is that it differs from the major scale by having a sharpened fourth scale degree - in the case of F Lydian, the fourth note of the scale is a B natural (in F major, this would normally be a B flat).

The presence of this sharpened fourth in the mode produces melodies that sound altered, distorted and otherworldly.

We finish by having a look at the melody and harmony of the theme tune to 'The Simpsons' - a piece of music based on the Lydian mode.
