Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Sarin, Director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), is a globally renowned gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and medical innovator. He has pioneered several groundbreaking advancements in liver disease management, including the globally recognized 'Sarin's Classification of Gastric Varices.' His contributions to the treatment of hepatitis B and C, cirrhosis, and liver cancer have transformed clinical practice.
Prof. Sarin has trained nearly 90 post-doctoral students, published over 350 international papers in top-tier journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet, and edited numerous reference books. He is the founding editor of Hepatology International and has developed 17 major treatment guidelines in liver diseases, including spearheading five key Asian Pacific guidelines.
In addition to his scientific contributions, Prof. Sarin spearheaded India’s Hepatitis B vaccination program and the "Yellow Ribbon Campaign" for hepatitis awareness. He played a pivotal role in reforming medical education as the Chairman of the Board of Governors at the Medical Council of India.
For his outstanding work, he has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, and several international honors, including the "Most Distinguished Physician from India" by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. His dedication continues to leave a lasting impact on global healthcare.
