Primordial Series | FRACTURED | Speedpaint

The fifth piece for my Primordial art series, focusing on scale and creature designs.

In this piece, I wanted to have a central subject as part of the composition, which is a bit of a risky move as it might make the image look too flat. I think my initial intent for it was to do a low angle, where we see the bird flying upwards towards the creature. I'm not entirely happy with the end result of this as I fell into the trap again of perspectives. I didn't account for the low angle when I did the rough sketch as I was too focused on shaping the other elements in the composition as well as the creature design. Since creature designs are a completely different specialism, I think I just need to practice more to find a good balance in putting creature and environments together. Since I only do seven paintings for each series, there's no way I'd be able to solidify each specialism I dip my hands into. But the goal was always to try out different specialisms I was interested in, rather than perfecting each of them so that I at least have a good idea and some knowledge in that specialism. And overall, I feel that my way of painting environments has improved with each series, which is good because I initially started this project to learn and become an environment artist.
