Although these burly 3,000 HP locomotives had a spotty history with Amtrak, they are still one of my favorites and are notable as Amtrak's first new power. They looked great in their as-delivered Phase 1 paint scheme with that billboard sized headless arrow logo on their sides. I think this scheme looks awesome on the retro 40th Anniversary P42 unit as well. By 1976 when these scenes were filmed, you couldn't miss these units on the long distance trains and on some shorter corridors. However, in just a year or so these units started to be rapidly replaced by the long serving F40PHs.
